If the Wanted status is high enough, law enforcement will be on the lookout or actively chasing the player until he's arrested (i.e. This occurs when committing criminal acts that has witnesses. This can often happen if the player gets a high enough Wanted status. When the player health is completely depleted, gameplay stops and the player respawns at the nearest hospital, at the cost of losing armor, weapons, and a large amount of money. Body armor can be used to absorb damage from gunfire and explosions, but is consumed in the process. If the player takes damage, a health pickup can be used to completely regenerate his bar of health. In combat, auto-aim can be used as support against enemies. In GTA III, the player can run, jump, and use vehicles to navigate the game world. As the player progresses through the story, more areas and sections of the map can be accessed. Liberty City consists of three boroughs: Portland, Staunton Island, and Shoreside Vale. Outside of missions, the player can freely roam the game's open world and complete optional side his missions. Since some missions require the player to wait for further instructions or events, multiple missions can be made available at the same time. Don't make the mistake of investing even a minute in this game. The GTA franchise finally goes full 3D with Grand Theft Auto III (aka GTA 3 or GTA III). If your own time is worth anything to you, please play literally anything else. Not for lack of interest in the story or gameplay, but sheerly because it just sucks so much to play that it isn't worth it. I have a lot of patience for older games- Half-Life, Doom, and early entries in Assassin's Creed are totally my jam-but I'm at my wit's end with this one and for the first time in my life I'm just going to give up, uninstall, and watch a cutscene compilation. And if you do fail? Either load a manual save (WHICH REQUIRES FULLY EXITING THE GAME), or get ready to go buy all your weapons back (IF YOU CAN REMEMBER WHERE THE GUN STORE IS!), then waste another few minutes JUST TO DRIVE BACK TO THE MISSION START. Your health drains so quickly whether in a car or on foot that there is rarely any margin for error, you must memorize exactly what to do in each mission or fail. Each mission is extremely easy, yet can take you 5+ tries due to simple lack of knowledge about the map (THERE IS NO FULL-SIZE INGAME MAP!!!!), unexpected enemy placement/ambushes that require planning in advance to escape, and just plain bad luck. I am about halfway through the game and not one single story or telephone mission in this game has constituted what I would call fun. The story, characters, open world, driving, art style, and radio are all deceptively good, but the mission design and save system singlehandedly drag this down to a 1/10 in my book. It has utterly no respect for the player's time or quality-of-life. One of the worst games I have ever played.
